A Traditional Christmas in Stowe

Welcome the holiday season in Stowe, Vermont with tree lighting’s, a lantern parade, wagon rides, Santa and reindeer visits and carolers. Experience candy cane pulling and wreath making, try gingerbread and cookie decorating, and enjoy performances, ice skating and more.

Friday, November 30

  • 2 – 4 p.m.: Stowe Vibrancy Welcome Kiosk at the Visitor Information Center (51 Main Street, Stowe) with festival schedule, map and complimentary treats
  • 3:45 p.m.: Reading of A Stitch in Time at Stowe Free Library
  • 4:30 p.m.: Main Street Lighting sponsored by Ferro Estate & Custom Jewelers
  • 4:30 p.m.: Children’s Lantern Parade & Holiday Tree Lighting with carols. Parade departs from Stowe Elementary School and ends at Helen Day Art Center
    • Post parade: Parks & Rec “Warm-Up” at the Stowe Elementary School gym
  • 5 – 7 p.m.: HDAC Festival of Trees & Light and Members’ Art Show at Helen Day Art Center
    • Celebrate the exhibition with hundreds of artworks, artisan-decorated trees, hors d’oeuvres by local restaurants and live piano music
    • 7:30 p.m.: “A Christmas Carol” at Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center

Saturday, December 1, 2018

  • 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Annual Christmas Fair at Stowe Community Church
    • Handmade Crafts, gorgeous wreaths and gifts
  • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Stowe Vibrancy Welcome Kiosk at the Visitor Information Center (51 Main Street, Stowe) with festival schedule, map and complimentary treats
  • 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Gingerbread House Decorating at Cork Stowe. Full gingerbread house kits for children. Adults may enjoy holiday wines
    • Pre-paid reservations ($30/child) required for one-hour slots
  • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Candy Cane Twisting and Hot Chocolate samples at Laughing Moon Chocolates
    • No reservations accepted; space is limited (first come, first serve basis). Admission is free to watch and $6/person to make your own cane.
  • 12 – 3 p.m.: Main Street Village Green Festivities & Photo Ops:
    • Reindeer & Donkey visits
    • Root7 A Cappella Group sings Christmas carols at noon and 1:30 p.m.
    • Beautifully decorated village Christmas tree
  • 12 – 3 p.m.: Santa & Mrs. Claus photos at Stowe Mercantile
    • $10 donated to Lamoille Community Food Share for each child who visits Santa. Following the Santa visit, kids head upstairs to decorate a free holiday cookie
  • 12 – 3 p.m.: Cookie Decorating at Café on Main
  • 12 – 3 p.m.: Hay rides in the village
    • Continuous stops at Depot Street, Stowe Recreation Center and Village Green
  • 12 – 3 p.m.:  Welcome to Winter by Stowe Parks & Recreation at the Gale Recreation Center
    • Free hot cocoa, cookies and crafts
  • 1:15 – 3:15 p.m.: Open Ice Skate at Stowe Arena
    • $5/per person for two-hour free skate; $5/ per person for skate rentals
  • 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.: “A Christmas Carol” at Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center

Sunday, December 2, 2018

  • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Frozen Film Party & Character Ice Skate at Stowe Arena
  • 12:30 – 2 p.m.: Frozen character skate on the ice with Elsa, Anna and Olaf
    • $5/per person for two-hour free skate; $5/per person for skate rentals. Free hot cocoa for kids
    • Area food concessions available for purchase
    • Costumes encouraged for all attendees
  • 11 a.m.: Candy Cane Twisting and Hot Chocolate samples at Laughing Moon Chocolates
  • 2 p.m.: “A Christmas Carol” at Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center
