Stowe's Cross-Country Ski Centers

Stowe's cross-country ski centers provide more than 150 km of groomed and 100 km of backcountry trails.

When combined with over 3000 acres of conserved land, Stowe boasts one of the largest, most diverse trail systems in the United States. From perfectly groomed tracks to smooth wide skating lanes to fine, untracked backcountry skiing - Stowe has trails for people and families of every ability. This Nordic treasure surrounds Stowe’s historic village, outstanding lodges, 40-plus quality restaurants, and 60 unique shops. Stowe is the perfect destination for your next Nordic adventure.

Many of the trails are perfect for snowshoeing. The new, lightweight materials and easy-to-use bindings make it easier than ever to enjoy snowy, wooded trails. If you like to walk, you can snowshoe. Combine it with a warm fire and good food after your journey, and you have a winter experience that you will always remember!

If you crave distance on your Vermont Nordic tour, make Stowe your base and enjoy the beauty and challenges of The Catamount Trail, a 300-mile cross-country trail that runs the length of Vermont. Closer to the beaten-path, your family will take pleasure in a leisurely trek along Stowe's 5.5 mile recreation path with easy access to restaurants and shops along the way.

Cross Country Ski Events in Stowe: The Stowe Derby

For a unique sporting event, plan to attend The Stowe Derby, a 10-mile cross-country ski race from the top of Mt. mansfield to Stowe village that has challenged people of all ages since 1945.

Participants will ski over 10 miles of challenging terrain, racing down Mt. Mansfield's Toll Road (a beginner alpine ski trail) and along nearly the entire length of the Stowe Recreation Path before reaching the finish in the village.

The Stowe Mountain Resort Cross-Country Ski Center offers 42 km of groomed Nordic ski trails. Novices will be introduced to a new world of outdoor winter beauty by out expert staff with lessons, rentals and tours in a variety of activities including in-track classic skiing, backcountry ski touring, Telemark and snowshoeing.
