Race to the top of Vermont

Over 300 mountain bikers and runners will have a rare opportunity to challenge the terrain of Mount Mansfield during the Catamount Trail Association’s Race to the Top of Vermont. The challenge will be held August 31st in Stowe, VT where participants will test their uphill endurance strength for 4.5 miles to the summit of the Mount Mansfield Toll Road. In head to head competition, participants will climb 2,550 vertical feet over the switch-backed dirt road terrain of this famous uphill route. Mountain bikers will start at 10:00am with a ten-minute gap before the runners start. The event will attract some of the top runners and mountain bikers in the East but will also draw the weekend warrior athlete whose main goal will be to race to the top of Vermont. Participants will be rewarded with breath-taking views of three states and Canada as they travel along the serpentine path up Mount Mansfield. The road will be closed to driving traffic during the race allowing participants complete access to the course. An after race party at the Matterhorn Restaurant in Stowe, a technical race t-shirt, a CTA Guidebook, and raffle will be included in the $30.00 entry fee. Awards will be presented to the top three in each age group for men and women in each discipline. Late entry after 8/25/08 is $40.00 Visit www.catamounttrail.org for race details and entry form or call (802) 864-5794. All proceeds will go to protect and conserve the last 90 miles of Vermont’s 300-mile Catamount Trail. “The Length of Vermont on Skis”.
