VERMONT CULINARY CLASSIC RETURNS TO STOWE JUNE 13- 22, 2008

2nd Annual Event Promises an Extraordinary Celebration of Vermont’s Culinary Diversity!

Gastronomical adventures will abound in Stowe, Vermont as the Vermont Culinary Classic at Stowe returns for a second year, bringing to life an incredible celebration for the senses. Building on the highly successful 2007 “Classic,” this 10-day event for “foodies” and families alike will feature a wide array of festivities that exult the bounty of spring and Vermont’s rich culinary heritage.

Highlighting the calendar are several “marquee-makers” including the Bounty Festival, held at Stowe Mountain Resort, which brings together dozens of area restaurants, artisans, farmers and food-related purveyors for a special day-long gathering chock-a-block with things to see, do, eat, and enjoy. This year’s Festival line-up promises to echo 2007 as Vermont places its world-famous fresh local ingredients in the spotlight via bountiful tastings, an Iron Skillet-style cooking competition, a wild edibles walking tour, chef-hosted seminars, a pancake eating contest, petting zoo and children’s activities, live music and much more. A portion of the proceeds from this event benefit local children’s charities that promote healthy eating.

Here are just a few of our favorite things for families to do while visiting Stowe:

The Depot Street Malt Shoppe - Stowe's 50's style soda-fountain is perfect for families. Enjoy malts, frappes, sundaes and cones. Great burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Kid friendly! 253-4269; on Depot Street in the Village of Stowe.

Play at the "Leathers" public playground at Stowe Elementary School - Local children helped design and raise money for the playground, which includes all the usual toys and a palatial, wooden-turreted climbing structure. The children raised $10,000--the first donor to their "Buy a Board" campaign was Christopher Reeve.

See how gourmet ice cream is made, then tickle your tastebuds with yummy samples - Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory Tour, recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 10 tour experiences in the country, costs only $3 for adults and is free for children 12 and younger.

Learn how cider is made and enjoy a free sample too! - Established in 1974 in an historic, old Vermont barn, it has become New England's most famous cider mill and a Vermont specialty foods & crafts store. Take your family to observe cider making and enjoy free samples. Open year-round.

Experience Rock of Ages! - Tour a granite quarry nearly 600 feet deep. Watch our artisans at the factory. See our video, explore our exhibits and bowl on our outdoor granite lane. Once you’ve seen it, you’ll want to TRY it—our new Cut-In-Stone Activity is a BLAST. Squeeze the trigger and feel the throb of air and abrasive as you cut in stone! Walk away with a great granite gift made by your own hands.

Join Apple Tree Discovery or Stowe Summer Camp - Local experts unveil the hidden treasures of Stowe on guided family adventures to our favorite forests and waters for hiking, biking, climbing, paddling, swimming, fishing, or just exploring. Or treat your children to their own adventures with the new friends waiting to meet them at Stowe Summer Camp.

Bike, in-line skate or stroll on the Stowe Recreation Path - The 5.3-mile Recreation Path is paved and relatively flat, perfect for kids of all ages. The award-winning trail starts in Stowe Village, winds through meadows, and crosses the West Branch River on 11 arched wooden bridges. Five shops on or near the Recreation Path offer bicycle and snowshoe rentals. There are more than 70 children's bicycles available to rent, as well as trailers and bike seats. Or try a "trailabike," one-wheel half-bikes that attach to an adult's bicycle. Children can help pedal the trailabike or let their parents do the work when they get tired.

Enjoy a round of "golf in miniature" at the Stowe Golf Park - The course has been professionally designed as a miniaturized golf course which strives to simulate a real golf environment and experience. Fun for both the practiced and...not so practiced golfers in your family!

Bungee Trampolines at Stowe Mountain Resort! - Strap into the bungee harness and catch the biggest air of your life between bounces! For details on a Mountain Attractions Package, click here

Stowe's Gondola to Vermont's tallest peak - On the ride up & at the top, you will find stunning views of Lake Champlain, the Adirondack Mountains and surrounding areas. Not only do you get the amazing views from the Gondola, you can also access a wide variety of hiking trails. Or zig and zag your way up to the summit ridge via the Auto Toll Road.

Swoosh down a mountain on an Alpine Slide - Stowe's exhilarating 2,300-foot Alpine Slide is located on the slopes of Spruce Peak. It's the only alpine slide in Northern Vermont.

Attend the "Celebration of the Vine" Harvest Festival at Boyden Valley Winery! - Grape picking, grape stomping, live blues music, clowns, face painting, hayrides, games and llamas. Historical farming demonstrations, Green River canoe tours and more at this favorite event! Boyden Valley Winery is part of a fourth-generation farm in the pastoral Lamoille River Valley of Vermont. Come visit anytime for tours and tastings.

Choose and cut your own Christmas Tree! - For over 35 years, Paine's has been a holiday tradition for families near and far. We offer pre-cut trees and a choose and cut operation. Wreaths, garland and gifts also available.
