In celebration of Lake Champlain's Quadricentennial, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra will present a salute to Uncle Sam--Vermont's own Uncle Sam that is, Samuel de Champlain, who discovered our bordering-on-great lake in 1609. The VSO pays tribute to our Frenchman in America with Gershwin's "An American in Paris" and a program both Gallic and aquatic: an overture by Berlioz, a medley from Les Misérables, Sousa's Hands Across the Sea March, Handel's Water Music, and show tunes from South Pacific. Fireworks accompany the 1812 Overture for a dramatic bon soir.
