Telemark Clinic for beginners and intermediate skiers

Visit Stowe Mountain Resort for a telemarking lesson with top-rated PSIA Telemark instructor Mike Beagan.

Choose the beginner lesson from 9:30-11:30 am and you’ll learn the basic Telemark stance, refine it and link Telemark turns.  For skiers with some experience, able to ride chair lift and get down green trails. Your choice: $69 for the clinic and lift ticket or $99 for the clinic, ticket, and demo equipment. Use the equipment all day and enjoy the benefits of skiing on the latest boots, skis and bindings on the Toll House lift.

The intermediate lesson and backcountry tour is from 12:30-4 pm. Improve your Telemark turn and touring skills, increase your confidence on variable terrain and practice waxing and skinning techniques for backcountry touring. Stowe Derby "Descent Recon"

Pre ski... practice and observe the Stowe Derby descent. Get the edge this year, and locate and ascertain strategic features to dominate the thrilling downhill portion of this amazing ski race! On your own or with a group. Get tips and instruction from Trina Hosmer, a member of the first U.S. Women’s Cross-Country Ski Team who trains, races and wins several gold medals in her age group in World Master’s XC Ski Championships. She also co-chairs the New England Women’s XC Ski Day and runs a weekly training program in Stowe for women teaching them how to ski more efficiently. Participants meet at the base of the Look Out Chair at Stowe Mountain Resort (top of the stairs above the Base Lodge). 2:30 sharp! Cross-Country skis are welcome but participants are asked to stay on the Auto Toll Road. Plan your own transportation back to your car. The Mountain Road shuttle is free. $5 donation to the Vermont Ski Museum is suggested.

"Painting New England" Launch Event

David Lussier and Pamela Simpson Lussier, noted plein air artists whose New England landscape and harbor paintings are sought-after by collectors throughout the country, have teamed with Stowe Land Trust for the Vermont kick-off of a multi-year project called “Painting New England: Preserving the Landscape.” The project will be launched locally at an event scheduled from 3 p.m.. to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at the Green Mountain Inn, 18 Main St. in Stowe village. 

During the project aimed at bringing attention to the threats upon the natural resources, history and land New Englanders cherish, Lussier and Simpson Lussier will travel throughout the six New England states and are committed to painting in each of the region’s 67 counties. 

During the Painting New England Stowe event, Lussier and Simpson Lussier will display some of their favorite paintings from the region and be available to informally discuss the project with visitors. Proceeds from painting sales or donations given during the event will benefit both the Painting New England project and Stowe Land Trust.

Yes, there is humor in some plane accidents.  This presentation is packed with photographs of some of Vermont's most bizarre airplane wrecks.  The Green Mountains have not always been kind to either military or civilian flyers but many aviators were the victims of some what were they thinking crashes.  The show includes mid-air collisions, empty planes flying overhead, and a host of other laughable events.

Green Mountain Club: Journey to the Yukon and Alaska
Join Burlington Section trip leader Paul Houchens as he recounts the epic trip he and five fellow GMC members made to the Klondike. This evening of stories and slides will chronicle the six intrepid adventurers as they travel by ferry boat, foot (backpacking the famous Chilkoot Trail), and canoe across some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain in North America.

Main Event Series Finals at Stowe Mountain Resort

The Main Event Series is New England's top progressive freestyle snowboarding competition!  In its seventh season, the series has qualifiers around New England and then the Finals will be at Stowe, February 27th, and 28th of 2010.  Riders have the chance to compete their way from their local mountain to the Burton U.S. Open.

Stowe Derby 2010
