Stowe's cross-country ski centers provide more than 150 km of groomed and 100 km of backcountry trails.

When combined with over 3000 acres of conserved land, Stowe boasts one of the largest, most diverse trail systems in the United States. Many of the trails are perfect for snowshoeing. The new, lightweight materials and easy-to-use bindings make it easier than ever to enjoy snowy, wooded trails. If you like to walk, you can snowshoe. If you crave distance on your Vermont Nordic tour, make Stowe your base and enjoy the beauty and challenges of The Catamount Trail, a 300-mile cross-country trail that runs the length of Vermont. Cross Country Ski Events in Stowe: The Stowe Derby February 26, 2012

For a unique sporting event, plan to attend The Stowe Derby (stowederby.com), a 10-mile cross-country ski race from the top of Mt. mansfield to Stowe village that has challenged people of all ages since 1945.

Participants will ski over 10 miles of challenging terrain, racing down Mt. Mansfield's Toll Road (a beginner alpine ski trail) and along nearly the entire length of the Stowe Recreation Path before reaching the finish in the village.

The Stowe Mountain Resort Cross-Country Ski Center offers 42 km of groomed Nordic ski trails. Novices will be introduced to a new world of outdoor winter beauty by an expert staff with lessons, rentals and tours in a variety of activities including in-track classic skiing, backcountry ski touring, Telemark and snowshoeing.

About The Catamount Trail

At 300 miles in length and spanning the length Vermont from the MA to the Canadian borders, the Catamount Trail is one of Vermont s treasured winter gems. It is a cross-country ski and snowshoe trail that has been in the making since 1984 and was fully linked together in 2008. Thousands of skiers and snowshoers take to the trail every winter season - most for the day, many on Catamount Trail Association tours and some to go end-to-end - all enjoying the backcountry, touring center, farmland and village surroundings along the way.
