Stowe Mountain Biking Trails

Stowe is home to Cottonbrook, Vermont's first marked mountain biking trail on state land. The trail was built as a joint project between Stowe and the Vermont Trails and Greenways Council. Other sanctioned mountain-bike trails include Old County Road, Stowe Hollow and Brownsville giving Stowe a large trail network for all levels of riders. The Stowe Mountain Bike Club is a dedicated group of individuals who are committed to building, preserving, protecting and maintaining the local trail network.

A New Bike Park in Stowe!

The Stowe Mountain Bike Club built and maintains a great new bike park with jumps and a variety of tracks. The "pump track" has been a particular favorite with the locals. The bike park is located near the Stowe Polo Fields and is open to the public.

Stowe's Award Winning Bike Path

For those who want a gentler pace, a favorite bicycle ride is on Stowe's award-winning Recreation Path. The 5.3-mile paved bike path starts in Stowe Village, winds its way through forests and meadows, and crosses the West Branch River 11 times on arched wooden bridges. Numerous shops, lodges, and restaurants are accessible from the path.

Cycling on the Road in Stowe

Cyclists can ride on 103 miles of road in Stowe-29 miles are blacktop and 74 miles are unpaved for relatively easy mountain biking.

Mountain Biking at the Trapp Family Lodge

Trapp Family Lodge mountain biking trails are open from June 1 until November 1. They have 1 mile of intermediate single-track trail, 5+ miles of intermediate/expert single-track, and 20 miles of beginner to advanced double-track that spreads all over their beautiful property. Their progression of trails is perfect for first-timers or anyone looking to develop skills and confidence gradually. Trapp Family Lodge offers mountain biking skills lessons, guided trips on and off property, and a rental fleet of 40 bikes from children's cruisers to full suspension bikes. In addition to their private trails, there are over 50 miles of trails within minutes of the Lodge.

Stowe Bike Rentals

About 300 rental bicycles are available from several shops on or near Stowe's Recreation Path: A.J.'s Ski & Sports, the Nordic Barn, and Pinnacle Ski & Sports. Adults can choose from mountain bikes for all levels, touring bikes, and bicycles-built-for-two. Children may want to try out a "trailabike"-one-wheel half-bikes that attach to an adult's bicycle. They can help pedal the trailabike or let their parents do the work when they get tired. Children's bikes, trailers and bike seats also are available.
