GUESS THE FALL FOLIAGE PEAK IN STOWE VERMONT
Win a Stowe Stay!
Stowe, Vt (August 27, 2007) Viewing the fall colors is one of the most popular ways to spend leisure time, and with autumn rapidly approaching, Stowe, Vermont is one of the most sought-after destinations. And because guessing the exact time of Peak Foliage is one of the locals’ favorite pastimes, Stowe Visitor Center staff will keep their peepers open to determine when they think this idyllic New England town’s trees have hit the highest point of color. Guess the time and date, and visitors to Stowe during autumn will have the opportunity to put their best guess to the test, and have a chance to win a Stowe Stay! As Valerie Rochon, Executive Director of Stowe Area Association tells it, “In the fall there are more reasons to stay in Stowe for a week than a weekend somewhere else”.
Vermont forestry experts back up the prediction that a good foliage season is on the way. “We’ve experienced many bright sunny days and received plenty of moisture this summer, which has created ideal growing conditions for all vegetation,” says Ginger Anderson, Chief of Forest Management for the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation. “We can look forward to another brilliant fall foliage season.”
To enter, just visit the Visitor Information Center on Main Street in Stowe Village anytime between the traditional foliage season, September 24 and October 21. Ask for a Leafy Entry Form and fill it out with your best guess of date and time that you think absolute PEAK foliage will occur. The entry closest to the actual time and date determined by the Stowe staff will win a 5-night midweek stay for two at Topnotch Resort & Spa in Stowe (some restrictions apply). Contest closes on October 22.
While you’re in Stowe, one of the most enjoyable ways to take in these incomparable vistas is by driving at your own relaxed, deliberate pace. The Stowe website, http://www.gostowe.com/ suggests nearly a dozen guided scenic tours, which offer journeys for all day, or just a few hours. How about cruising back roads, passing haunted Emily’s Bridge, one of a number of covered bridges in the area. After your fall color viewing your route could take you to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory for a tour and sampling. Continue the tasting as you head back toward Stowe. You’ll find dozens of award-winning cheese samples at the Cabot Cheese Annex Store, but you can’t stop there. Next up is the Cold Hollow Cider Mill for free sips of good old-fashioned apple cider. And with rates averaging as low as $75+ tax, per room per night anyone can glory in the fall colors of Stowe.
Located at the foot of Mt Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak, the idyllic village of Stowe, Vermont has been hosting travelers for over 200 years. Stowe is the only Vermont location spotlighted in the just-released 100 Places to See in Your Lifetime: America the Beautiful from the Editors of LIFE Magazine Editor Robert Sullivan states, “It's pulled off the amazing trick of becoming famous and a destination, yet remained true to its essence: It is what it is, a New England village of great charm and a day-to-day that features village rhythms”.
