Stowe, Vermont in Summer is Auto Enthusiasts’ Paradise
Antique & Classic Meet Celebrates 50 Years of Pristine Autos
Stowe, Vermont is home to two of the most prominent auto shows in the Northeast. This year the Stowe Antique & Classic Car Meet celebrates 50 years of excellence, making it one of the oldest shows in the country. Held from August 10-12 on the Nichols Field south of Stowe Village, the show will feature nearly 1,000 immaculate period cars. Other events include Vintage Fashion Judging, Flea Market & Car Corral, and on Saturday afternoon these cars make their pilgrimage in the Annual Parade through the streets of Stowe. And in a blast from past, for the first time in the show’s history Main Street in Stowe Village will be closed to traffic as attendees take to the street for an Oldies Street Dance on Saturday night, surrounded by these historic automotive wonders. Register as a participant by at www.vtauto.org or come to view these truly awe-inspiring vehicles.
On September 14th the cars turn proper English, as the 17th Annual British Invasion returns to Stowe. “The “Invasion”, which started quite appropriately over a pint of ale in 1990, will offer the Mini as the Featured Marque of this year’s show, and is described as “A Four Day Celebration and Salutation to the Great British Motorcar and all manner of other things British”. Its kudos include selection as the number ONE choice for Best 10 things to do within a day's drive of Boston. Event organizer Christopher Francis says, “This is the largest 3-day show of its kind in the Eastern U.S, with more than 700 British Classic and Sports cars. Visitors love the British Marketplace selling everything from Marmite to Morgans.”
If you’d like to enter your auto, pre-registration is a must for The British Invasion, and you can do so at www.britishinvasion.com
Many of these autos tour the Stowe area as part of their itinerary, and if you’d like to do the same in your vintage (or non) car, check out www.gostowe.com and choose from nearly a dozen Scenic Drives.
