BESTSELLING AUTHOR CHRIS BOHJALIAN RETURNS TO STOWE VERMONT FOR INTIMATE DISCUSSIONS WITH BOOK CLUB MEMBERS

Chris Bohjalian, New York Times bestselling author of Midwives and Before You Know Kindness, will be returning to Stowe this April. For the second consecutive year, he will be hosting intimate discussions with clubs this spring in Vermont’s premier destination village.

Stowe’s Book Club Package invites book clubs and all reading enthusiasts to retreat with their questions, and insights to the Green Mountains of Vermont to examine Bohjalian’s work and meet with the author. Ever since Bohjalian was propelled into the national spotlight when his novel, Midwives, was chosen by Oprah Winfrey for her television book club, he has championed what reading groups great and small can do to remind us of the pleasures to be found in fiction.

The Book Club package is available April 13-15, 2007 and includes one or more nights of accommodations, breakfast daily, a one-hour discussion with Chris Bohjalian, and a signed, hardcover copy of Bohjalian’s brand new novel, The Double Bind, (coming February 13, 2007).

The package is available to a maximum of 100 attendees and starts at $59 per person per night, double occupancy.

Bohjalian will be meeting with intimate groups of 25 to discuss any of his novels including Midwives, Water Witches, Trans-Sister Radio, The Law of Similars, The Buffalo Soldier, Before You Know Kindness and – especially – The Double Bind.

“Book groups have reminded us all of a fact we try and teach our preschool and elementary school children all the time, but as grownups we all too often tend to forget:” said Bohjalian. “Reading is meant to be fun. It is capable of evoking from us the same conversational enthusiasm as movies and music and stage plays, if we only give the notion a chance.”

Here is what is being said about The Double Bind:

· “A mystery anchored in sorrow, a harrowing and even haunting tale of literary influence, delusion, intervention. Chris Bohjalian has done it again--Gregory Maguire, author of Wicked and Son of a Witch

· “An engrossing puzzle . . . a high-wire act for bestseller Bohjalian. . . [who] pulls off a tricky and intriguing premise.”-- Publishers Weekly

· "The Double Bind races toward a conclusion that boasts a shocking twist. . .This elegantly crafted tale is well worth delving into." Booklist

· “The most entertaining and best-written psychological mystery story I have ever read. It has all of the pure horror of The Silence of the Lambs while it is also Bohjalian’s most daring, personal, and powerful literary novel to date. The Double Bind is his masterwork, the book he was born to write”
-- Howard Frank Mosher, author of A Stranger in the Kingdom and Waiting for Teddy Williams

Bohjalian’s work had been translated into 19 languages and published in 22 countries and twice become acclaimed movies. Reviews, biographical information, and an essay on why book clubs are important can be found on the official Chris Bohjalian web site at www.chrisbohjalian.com, and you can watch a multimedia preview of The Double Bind at this link: http://www.chrisbohjalian.com/doublebind/ecard/.”

Bohjalian may have been born to write, but also to engage, inspire and entertain those who attend his discussions.

The Stowe Book Club Package can be booked through the Stowe Visitors’ Information Center at 1-800-GOSTOWE. Stowe Information Specialists will also be happy to give you information on Stowe’s many restaurants and assist in booking dinner for your group.
