CHRISTMAS IN STOWE VERMONT 2006

Kids Consult with Santa!

Come see what’s happening for the holidays in Stowe, Vermont this year!

Santa Claus is Coming to Stowe! And, no need to send your letter to the North Pole, because Stowe is “Santa Central” this season. Address your letter to Santa Claus, Stowe Area Association, PO Box 1320, Stowe, Vermont 05672, and Santa will have letter in-hand for a private consultation with each child. Santa’s home is at the Stowe Mercantile on Main Street in the village, and he lands here on Saturday, December 9 and 16, from 12 noon to 2pm. There will be an opportunity to decorate your own Christmas cookie while you wait for a visit with the Big Guy. And, Stowe Mercantile will offer holiday carols and music each weekend day starting on Dec 2nd through Sunday the 24th.

In addition, visitors can take advantage of numerous holiday happenings:
· Haven’t you always wanted to sing the Hallelujah Chorus accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra? Join the chorus for the12th Annual Handel’s Messiah Community Sing-In, Wednesday, December 20th, 7:30pm, Stowe Community Church. Vermont singers will perform solos, but everyone is encouraged to join in the choruses. Bring your own score, or they will happily loan you one to share.
· The Vermont Mozart Festival sets the stage for seasonal music on Thursday, December 14, 8:00pm, when the New York Chamber Soloists join Vermont’s Oriana Singers for their offering of J.S. Bach’s B Minor Mass, also at the Stowe Community Church.
· Helen Day Art Center’s Annual Festival of the Trees’ theme this year will be Silver Bells, as part of the art center’s 25th Anniversary. Vermont trees will be lighted and imaginatively decorated by various organizations. In addition an exhibit of all types of bells will be featured. Exhibits begin Tuesday, December 5th and extend through the holidays.
· Think of Stowe for an unhurried, unique shopping experience. Our nearly 70 shops are “un-chained”—all locally owned and operated! Fine crafts, one-of-a-kind fashions, body products, jewelry, specialty foods, and of course the best outerwear and sports equipment, the better to get you ready for winter sports in Stowe.

Stowe offers endless opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors—from world-class skiing and snowboarding to snowmobiling, cross country skiing on a seemingly endless trail system, snow shoeing, dog sledding or sledding on an unusual sled, like a Mad River Rocket or Hammerhead, both made in Vermont.

If you haven’t visited Stowe Mountain Resort in a while, you’re in for a surprise. With $400 million of improvements to the resort, there are new lifts, new snowmaking—and the long-awaited transfer lift, which whisks you from Mt. Mansfield to Spruce Peak in mere minutes.

In total, Stowe offers over 70 unique and boutique shops, 40 restaurants, and almost 50 different lodging establishments ranging from full service resort spas to quaint bed and breakfasts.
